It used to be, like, a really long time ago, that people and computers were actually two separate things. People used their hands to operate computers, and carried them around in briefcases and backpacks. Unit, man, things have gotten a lot better since the feeds.

So is Titus's world. He knows exactly where to get the latest clothes (Weatherbee & Crotch), and where to go when he gets bored (the moon, but that totally sucked anyway). None of his friends read, because they stopped going to School™ when they were about seven. Who needs to go to School™ when everything you want to know, and even some of the things you don't, is on the feed? There is no need to think for oneself. There is no silence. There is no hiding from the world.

A trip to the moon changes everything Titus ever thought he knew about the world. He meets an amazing girl named Violet, who knows what life is like without the feed. She knows silence, and learning, and reading, and how to use a pen with her hands. Violet is not satisfied with the feed. She wants to fight it, and draws Titus into her rebellion against government control.

FEED is laugh-out-loud funny in its satire, but at the same time it is absolutely terrifying. As technology brings us into a new age of communication, FEED explores the possibility of a future of control and brainwashing. Consumerism becomes America's ruler as Anderson takes today's ideas of what we "must" have and twists them into something that is a lot closer to reality than anyone will ever want to admit.
