Protector of the Small --- The FINAL Book in the Series is Here!

Our Special Feature This Month

Readers have a chance to win a signed copy of LADY KNIGHT, the fourth --- and final --- novel in Tamora Pierce's acclaimed Protector of the Small series.

Keladry of Mindelan has become a knight, and it is her duty to oversee a refugee camp while Tortall is at war with the Scanrans. But after seeing a vision of her fellow knights' enemy, Keladry must decide if she will remain at her assigned post --- or attempt to help in a more drastic way.

Read all four books in the Protector of the Small Series --- an epic adventure for readers of all ages!

Review: BEFORE WE WERE FREE

Anita de la Torre is like most 12-year-old girls. She's inquisitive, talkative, and irritates her older sister daily. A native of the Dominican Republic, she attends an American school and quickly learns that the greatest difference between the two countries is freedom. Reviewed by Heather Grimshaw.

Review: THE GATEKEEPERS

While it's certainly not a how-to book by any means, both teens --- and their parents --- would do well to read THE GATEKEEPERS, for it provides a fascinating and in-depth look at how one college selects its freshman class. Steinberg masterfully creates a sense of community by closely following six high school seniors from application through matriculation. Reviewed by Shannon Bloomstran.

Review: I, RHODA MANNING, GO HUNTING WITH MY DADDY

I, RHODA MANNING, GO HUNTING WITH MY DADDY by Ellen Gilchrist is a new collection of Rhoda tales that takes readers from reflections on her childhood, through her trials as a parent, to the inevitable self-examination of a 60-year-old woman. Reviewed by Eileen Zimmerman Nicol and excerpted.

Kick Off: Football Books

They still call baseball America's past time, but football fans know better. The gridiron is the arena for true heroics. With diving catches by receivers, Hail Mary throws from scrambling quarterbacks, and last second game-winning kicks --- no other sport embodies the competitive spirit like football! Reviewed by Troy Froebe
