Dear Readers,

This is usually the place where Serena and I write funny and cute anecdotes about our lives. But in light of recent events we frankly don't feel like being either funny or cute. And, as NYC residents, none of our stories are particularly amusing. So instead, we would just like to say that we feel blessed that we are all right and able to sit here typing this today.

This week's update is pretty much all new, chock full of reviews and info, and we are proud of it. So read, enjoy and don't forget today to tell someone you love them.

All our best,
Sarah and Serena

NEW THIS WEEK...

Win A Free Copy of KLEOPATRA by Karen Essex!!
What could be easier than getting a free book (and a really, really good book at that) just for posting a couple sentences in Word of Mouth about a recent book you read and liked (or, in some cases, hated so much you were temporarily blinded by your own disgust)? Besides, contributing to Word of Mouth not only automatically registers you to win a free book, it's also a great resource for finding out what your next great read should be!

Reading and Rights...
Tattooed appendages and green hair just isn't gonna cut it. Wanna be a REAL rebel? Read a Banned book!

Grief... and Recovery
Getting over the past couple of weeks and through the next couple of months is going to be hard. Very hard. I don't know if it helps to know that there are other kids out there feeling the exact same way as you. If you have some thoughts about the last few weeks  that you would like to share, write us at Talkback@teenreads.com. If you are an AOL member also take a look at the original poetry that's being posted on our AOL Teen message boards.

Reviews...

NAVIGATING THE DARWIN STRAITS by Edith Forbes
A beautifully crafted story of Jordy McNeil's unconventional childhood in small-town American. If this isn't on every school's required reading list, it should be.

THE SONGCATCHER: A Ballad Novel by Sharyn McCrumb
Lark McCourry, a teenage folksinger, discovers her family legacy in the lyrics of a song that has been passed down through the generations.

SHATTERED MIRROR by Amelia Atwater Rhodes
Can a vampire hunter and her undead prey learn to love each other? The question that has plagued modern man for centuries is finally answered...

THE STONES OF MOURNING CREEK by Diane Les Becquets
Francie crosses racial divides to befriend Ruthie, a courageous move that exposes her town's long held secret and possibly unlocks the mystery to her mother's death.

WORD FREAK: Heartbreak, Triumph, Genius, and Obsession in the World of Competitive Scrabble by Stefan Fatsis
What started out as a simple, journalistic account of an odd but harmless subculture of Scrabble freaks, turned into an all-out obsession for Stefan Fastis. This is his story.

KLEOPATRA by Karen Essex
Exploding the myth of Kleopatra as a seductress, Essex presents a fascinating portrait of the Queen of Egypt as a savvy political player, shrewd strategist and cunning diplomat.

MAKING WAVES Series by K.A. Applegate
Fans of Applegate's MAKING OUT series --- and who wouldn't be a fan of Zoe and all her nutty friends --- will not be disappointed with the new MAKING WAVES series.

Question of the Week...

Curious to know what other teens have to say?

Last time we asked:
What do you think about the trend of turning books into movies? What book would you like to see turned into a movie and how would you cast it?

Well, go on and check out all the responses.

And while you're at it, you should post an answer to our new(ish) question:
What book on your English class reading list are you dreading the most?
