Dear Reader,

So how are all my brilliant (and snappily dressed, I might add) Teenreaders doing this week? Did you all shower your mothers with presents and love on Mother's Day? Yes, well, due to financial constraints, I showered my Mom with more love than presents but, really, it IS the thought that counts.

Or so I desperately repeated to myself when, right after I gave my mother a homemade card and a bouquet of 8 carnations I bought at the supermarket for $5.99, my older sister presented her with a spa weekend. I continued to repeat this mantra --- it IS the thought that counts! dear god it IS the thought that counts! --- as I sat through the interpretive dance and the piano concerto my younger sister spent weeks composing for my mother who, incidentally, was reduced to tears of joy over the beauty, grace and awe-inspiring artistry of her multi-talented daughter. By the time my tiny baby sister had finished singing my mother her favorite Irish song (in Gaelic) and toddled over to give her a homemade card and bouquet of 9 carnations she charmed the florist out of, I was reduced to a whimpering, shaking freak who kept repeating "it IS the thought that counts!" in a Tourette's-like trance.

Ever been so upstaged by one (or all) of your siblings that you ended up a whimpering, shaking freak like me? Tell me about it: Babyswingster@aol.com.
