THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS by Ann Brashares, 3 stars.
The cover was really cute and I had heard a lot of hype about this book but, honestly, it
wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. :(

DAUGHTER OF THE BLOOD by Anne Bishop
If you need an escape from the regularities and typical life, read DAUGHTER OF THE BLOOD
by Anne Bishop. A haunting and terrifyingly beautiful book, it is guaranteed you will get
hooked by this one and want to read it again and again. It begins with the story of
a prophecy that a very powerful Queen will come and save the realm of Terreille from their
mayhem and destruction. One hitch is: the people who has been ruling Terreille doesn't
want to release their evil hold, so when the Queen finally arrives, she was only a child.
A defenseless and helpless child who possess amazing and advanced magical powers beyond
anyone's expectations. If you turn down this book, you will miss something vital
from your life.

I just read THE GIVER by Lois Lowry. 5 stars. It's so kewl! I noticed this book was on the
banned books list. I can't believe it!! Has everyone gone insane??
Draiochta92@aol.com
Since it's banned book month I thought I might say a few words on my favorite banned book
CATCHER IN THE RYE. It is one of my all time favorite books --- in fact even though
the first time I read it, it was for school. Holden Caulfield is the main chacter and
a really likable one at that. He also narrates the book with his own flair. It's
really hard to give a summary of the story without giving the whole book away so I will
leave it at that.

CHENG AND ENG by Darin Strauss, 4 stars
I just finished reading CHENG AND ENG and i loved it! It is a story about Cheng and Eng,
the siamese twins (joined by their heads) who lived during the 1800s. Truth be told, I
first started reading it for the "freak" value, but what I found amazed me --- a
story of real people, with a unique, (but not crippling) handicap, who lived
incredible lives full of traveling, love, and family.

As a junior in high school, I thought the new book, JACK: Straight From the Gut, was
terrific. For any students that have admired Jack Welch, or have never heard of the former
Chairman and CEO of GE...check JACK out!

HIGH SCHOOL, THE REAL DEAL by Juliana Farrell and Colleen Rush, 5stars
This is a great book that answers any question you ever wanted to ask about high school.
Read this if your in or going to High School. I'm in 7th grade, but it never hurts to be
prepared!

I recommend the book SPEAK by Laurie Halse Anderson. It is a wonderful book about a girl
who conquers her fears. Over the summer before freshman year in highschool she goes to a
party and calls the cops on the party. The author doesn't tell you why she calls the cops
on the party until the end. Because of this, everyone in the whole highschool hates her
and shunns her. In the end, she conquers her fears, and everyone finds out why she did it.
I give this book 5 stars.

WINTER OF FIRE is a great book. It is about a young woman named Elsha's struggle to
be more than she is. She lives in a world that has no summer, only winter. She
has never seen the sun. She has never seen a tree. But, she does live on
Earth. She is Quelled, which means that she has a brand on her forehead that tells
everyone that she is a Quell. In her world, there are also the Chosen, who believe
that they are the master race, the Chosen of God. Quelled women are called Harsha, a
word that she hates and her dream is that a Chosen man will call her woman. One day,
her birthday, she is slow and doesn't produce the amount of fuel in the mines, where all
quelled have to work, so she is punished. She must make it up the next day, plus the
right amount for that day too. But, the next morning instead of mining, she is called
to become the Firelord's handmade. The Firelord is the ruler of the world since he is
the only one who can find the mines for the fuel. She then embarks on her quest to become
a woman, only to find scorn and ridicule wherever she goes. Eventually she finds out
that she can also find the fuel, which is something only the Firelord should be able to
do. She doesn't tell him, but when he dies going to his celebration she must become
Firewoman. As a Firewoman she will have the power to change the lives of the
Quelled. But first she must prove herself more worthy then the Chosen man who says he
is supposed to be the Firelord's successor.
During the journey part of the book, she travels with the Firelord all over the
land. She makes many discoveries both good and bad, but on the way she finds the
most unlikely discovery of all, True Love. I give this book a rating of 5 stars.
(I'd give it a higher rating if I could.)

Everybody must read The Listeners by Bebe Faas Rice !!! I give it 5 stars. I just picked
it up at the library for junk reading and I couldn't put it down. Through out the whole
book you can imagine what's going to happen next. Every person should read it.
