This Week in Book History
On December 17, 1843, the great American author Charles Dickens published A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Apparently he wrote the story because he was broke and really needed the money. It took him only 6 weeks to complete it! The first printing of the book, 6,000 copies to be exact, sold out immediately, and it's been one of the most popular holiday stories of all time (I've lost count of how many times it's been made into a movie). Another interesting point to note, A CHRISTMAS CAROL introduced a new slang word into the English language: "Scrooge."
