As 2005 comes to a close, we at Teenreads.com have compiled some of our favorite books of the year for teens. Along with HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE by J.K. Rowling and ELDEST by Christopher Paolini --- two of the year's most anticipated and talked-about releases --- we spotlight three finalists for this year's National Book Award: INEXCUSABLE by Chris Lynch, AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MY DEAD BROTHER by Walter Dean Myers, and ELSEWHERE by Gabrielle Zevin.

Other standouts from 2005 include THE WILL OF THE EMPRESS by bestselling fantasy author Tamora Pierce; THE KINGDOM KEEPERS, a thriller by Ridley Pearson that takes place in Disney World; THE ORDER OF THE POISON OAK, Brent Hartinger's sequel to 2003's THE GEOGRAPHY CLUB; and THE MINISTER'S DAUGHTER by Julie Hearn, which is set during the tumultuous era of the Civil War in England.

In addition, we revisit the series that made their debuts this year. Among them are James Patterson's Maximum Ride, a high-flying science-fiction adventure; The Gatekeepers, a chilling supernatural series from Anthony Horowitz; and Cecily von Ziegesar's The It Girl, which stars a popular character from the Gossip Girl novels. Also, a number of series titles were updated in 2005, including Gossip Girl, The Princess Diaries, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and The Clique.

We hope you enjoy our year-end feature and make new discoveries along the way, as you look forward to the many literary offerings of 2006!
