Mrs. Goss and Mrs. Renaud inspired me to read. They taught me that there are a lot of good books. Mrs. Goss's book reports and her best stories she read inspired me to read more. Mrs. Renaud's speeches really inspired me because she made the type of books I don't like sound good.

My Great Grandmother inspired me to read. She died in May of '05 and she loved to read. I never got the point of reading, but after she passed away, I started reading a lot of Chicken Soup books; then I became really interested in reading a lot of different books. My favorite book that I think everyone should have fun reading is Al Capone Does My Shirts. It's easy to find because it's a nominee for the Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award.

I think that one of the first times that I read something besides an actual fiction book was last year when my High School band teacher gave me a book on the Civil War. It inspired me to start reading a whole other genre of books. Historical Fiction is something that I've always tried to stay away from because it's just not Eragon/Harry Potter material. Also, he's inspired me to read so much more than that...like music for instance.

My mother was always telling me to read and do something useful with my time. I always preferred television as opposed to reading. Then one time when my family and I were going to be in the car for a while, my mother told me to bring a book. I decided it couldn't hurt, so I brought one. When I got bored, I started reading and once I started, I couldn't stop. When your reading, you feel like your in a different world for your imagination to grow, and it so amazing. To this day I love reading!

My stepmother had me reading before I went to kindergarten and I have always been ahead of my class, so I thank her for doing that for me!

Well, I was steered into reading by a girl named Jordan Wilde while I was in the third grade. We are still in the same grade and she steered me into the Dragon Chronicles series. She inspired me to read and because of her, I am one of the top readers in the eighth grade in the United States.

It was funny actually, because it wasn't really an inspiration but more like a competition: when I was in third grade my best friend literally ate books and so I set my mind to be better than her so I started reading...and now I eat books too.

My teacher, Mrs. S, told us to read our favorite book and then do a book newspaper or a poster board on it. I thought that maybe I could do it on Holes and do a newspaper on it, and now I am almost finished with it.

My mom used to read to me a lot when I was little, especially before kindergarten. But I think that my kindergarten teacher is probably the one who really sparked my love for reading. We had a program set up where we would read short stories on the computer at our own speed, and then we would get copies of the books to take home. My mom says she remembers me not really being able to read that well, and then BOOM, I started reading all these little stories. She was amazed. Since I love reading, I also enjoy writing. I may not be the best reader or writer, but it's something that I like, and although they should, a lot of other kids don't.

My fourth grade teacher, Ms. National, divided the class into reading levels. I was in the Newberry Club, which was the more advanced group, and we were given additional books. Then, she also gave me special books that she didn't give anyone else in the Newberry Club. She recognized that I loved to read and gave me some good books.

My aunt, who works at a bookstore, steered me towards reading.

My mom told me that I could go to a faraway land when I read. I could be one with the characters. So, ever since then, I have been reading and doing that exact thing. This helped me forget my problems, and I could just enjoy a book and be in a place where no one can hurt or touch me.

Over the summer, my friend and I were so bored. While we were hanging out, we had both decided that we would swap books. It inspired me because I usually can never get hooked on a book, and I get easily discouraged. But, when I knew my friend had found interest in it, I was reassured that I wouldn't find the books boring.

I am a 9th grader now, and I had a friend who was abused from age 3 to age 13. She was beaten for ten years and was scared to get help; she ended up almost dying three times. I was scared for her life and I wanted to help in some way, but she always kept telling me that everything was going to be ok, and she just kept getting beat up on the bus. I believed her until one day when I drove past her house and I saw her mother in the front yard with her father just beating her. My mother called the cops and I was not sure what had happened. I have not seen my friend since then and I hope she is doing ok, and that she is healthy and with good people. I love her to death.

I read A Child Called "It", and I was so upset with it. I cried at all the parts when the little boy was getting hurt. I had no idea that that could have been happening to my friend. Now I see what horrible things happen to kids who do not know how to stop it. That is how I got to reading the books I read.

For me, reading has just always been something that I've loved. I really can't pinpoint one book or one author or one person that inspired me to read, but I am very grateful that they put a lot of emphasis on reading in primary school, having home-readers and everything. I do remember really liking the Angelina Ballerina books when I was little. I think my mum read them to me.

I don't ever remember anyone purposefully inspiring me to read, but I think church inspired me to start reading. The bible was so amazing to me. All the stories about the plagues and how God set his people free were all so amazing. As I got older, I started reading The Baby-Sitters Club books and other series. I am still reading now and I take almost every minute on my bus ride home to read. I'll say God inspired me to read.

My mother is a middle school librarian, and has inspired me to read books. When I was 7 years old, I was reading books from middle school libraries. I have loved to read all my life.

Hmmm...a very interesting question to ask. I'm really the only one in my family who reads, and I was inspired by my Honors English teacher in the 8th grade. Every month we had to read at least 500 pages. It was a struggle for me at first because I only read but one book in the 7th grade, and I didn't like it at all. But Mr. Lock, my English teacher, kept on telling us all these wonderful stories, from The Tell-Tale Heart to Pride and Prejudice. I can't really explain how he phrased the parts of the stories he liked, but it got our class of 30 so pumped (his way of saying excited, it got annoying after a while) that we read well over 500 pages, at least every one of us read the minimum of 750. Even now, over the summer and well into the 9th grade, I have read dozens and dozens of books. So, thanks to Mr. Lock, I have been inspired to read.

I could not read until grade 5. I didn't see the point --- if I can write, than why read others' work? But when we had the author Jean Little come to speak to my class I realized that there was more out there, more to explore; reading fiction is a way to see other points of views, and to expand on your thoughts and ideas, so I made myself get help and learn, just to see how much more I could find out. I've been addicted to books ever since.

My teacher, Mr. Larash, would give us ideas of great books and read out loud to us in class. The books he read always had a message, and really spoke to me.

I can't really remember anyone inspiring me to read. I began to read at a very young age. I remember my addiction to the written word started around first grade. It was with my grandfather's money that I bought my books; I guess he had something to do with it. I'm ashamed to say my mother doesn't like that I read so much. She says I've been filling my head with garbage all those years. But I say, as long as I can see I will read.

My kindergarten teacher was a published author. This inspired me because I thought it must be so cool to know that people all over the world read her book!

I saw my friends read a lot of educational books and also read some nice, interesting stories. My aunt also reads very interesting books, and I've seen a lot of change in her. "An idle mind is a devil's home" is true --- if you doing nothing, just sitting idle, you should read, so you're keeping yourself occupied from unnecessary thoughts. So I forced myself for a few days, then I got used to it.

My teacher gave me A Deadly Game of Magic because she knew I like mischief. This gave the book a whole new name of it. Thanks Mrs. A.

I was in grade 4 and I hadn't heard of Harry Potter and hadn't read any of the books, so my friend Chris gave me The Chamber of Secrets. Well, I guess you could say I'm a readaholic now.

My best friend, Ruby M., died a year back. She passed away from a drug overdose, and she was only 17. Her tragic death and the pain that I went through inspired me to write. Some say that my writing is morbid, but it's me with laces of Ruby. She was my close friend, and I miss her. Through my loss, I was able to find the writer in myself.

megan_fletcher99@yahoo.com
My friend inspired me to read. I used to read somewhat before I met her, but now she has told me about so many great books. She sends a book list every month and it has about 12 books on it. I read each and every book she mentions and I am always satisfied when I do. She is going to be a writer someday, and she has inspired me to write too! I am so happy she introduced me to books.

I was inspired to read at an early age. My aunt was a preschool teacher and taught me so much before I even started school. She used to read to me a lot. So now that I am in college, I love reading. I love reading those books where you just can't wait to finish them. So, thanks to my aunt I love to read.

Someone doesn't inspire me to read just anything, events inspire me to read books on the subject. I used to be suicidal so now I read books on it. So far I have read The Burn Journals, America, Girl Interrupted, and some of Prozac Nation. My mom says they will just make me depressed again, but they keep me from being depressed, knowing all the stuff that I would have to go through again if I were.

Also, I went to a big horse race last week (Breeders Cup) and so about two weeks before that I read Ruffian: Burning From the Start. That book makes me cry at least 50 times every time I read it. And I guess that's why I read books that are sad, so that I can at least feel some sorrow even if it isn't about my own life.
