Which books that are "required reading" would you read for fun?

LondonLass08@aol.com
To Kill A Mocking Bird is a really great book. I had to read it for english this year, and I thought it was great. I thought it would be boring, but it got better as I read on. I also had to read The Hobbit last year. Since then, I have read all the books in The Lord of the Rings series. The Hobbit definitely got me hooked!

I love love love to read all kinds of books, but it seems the only books I dislike are those that I am forced to read for school! They are mostly about wars, or classics that I'm not into. The best book that I was required to read was probably Summer of the Monkeys, by Wilson Rawls.

In school there are no books that i would read with out having to. The books at school are boring and make students repulsed by books because they are so boring. It seems like they don't want us to read that they are doing it just so they can tell the state that we read a certain book.

The books on the required reading list are always very boring, which is what I found out this past year. It took me forever to find a book I could at leastly try to get into. The one book I did end up liking a lot was Ender's Game. It had to do with a war in outerspace and this genius that's only 7yrs old who is suppose to save us from another invasion from the aliens. I really enjoyed it and would recomend anybody who likes to read to read this book.

I would definately read "To Kill A Mockingbird" for fun. Although the plot and the issues the book addresses are very serious, the book teaches about a time in history. It takes you back and throws you into that world, and you experience the emotions that the characters experience.

I am currently reading "Miracle's Boys" and so far it is a good book off and on. Although, I've only gotten to page 35 I don't recommend you read it if you are picky about books. I'm kind of disappointed in the book but I have to read it for school!

One book that I know is required reading but I would read for fun is "To Kill a Mocking Bird". This book is a really good book, only thing is when the schools require you to read it you don't really want to. A good book made bad. :

Where I live, To Kill A Mockingbird is required reading for 9th graders. When we began reading it in class two years ago, I wasn't sure it would be interesting. I was quickly drawn in to the story, though, and I finished it much earlier than necessary. It was an awesome, interesting story and it kept me interested all the way through. A lot of my classmates didn't give the book a chance and disliked it because we HAD to read it instead of judging it by it's quality. Some of them didn't even bother to read the book at all and used Cliff Notes and online book notes to pass the tests. I think people need to give books a chance, even required ones, before they make their judgements. I've read To Kill A Mockingbird twice since then, and it's one of my favorite stories. I've gotten others to read it too, and they've liked it! Reading opens doors. Don't let some stay closed merely because the reading is required.

I would definately read romeo and juliet for fun, and I totally loved the oddessy of homer when we read it last year. I would read any edgar allen poe book for fun, and Tom Sawer by Mark twain, I love to read, so I read a lot, but I hate it when I have to read somthing that is sooo boring, like Jack London books, they are well written and all, just not my type of story, ya know what I mean? I probably sound like a total prep and loser, but oh well, I am really bored, so that's the way it goes.
